ORGANIC HOMEMADE BABY FOOD

Organic

Healthy

Quick and Easy

Delicious

In this super simple recipe, we will be making some organic homemade baby food. Now as a mama, a mama bear, one of my joys is knowing that my little one is getting the best I can give in that moment. You can see my post on different seasons in life and at times things may look differently.

I do love to make homemade baby food, knowing what's going into her food, and I am able to use all organic ingredients. What's great about this is you change things around, add or even take out some ingredients and mix it up to your baby's liking.

Our base ingredient here is beets which is a great source of iron. We will also add sweet potatoes, strawberries, carrots, apples and you can also add different berries, cooked oats, cooked rice etc.

The way how I'm sharing today is how I typically make it, while she does snack of other things as well throughout the day.

***It is important to note when giving a baby anything, you start with single ingredient foods, then gradually add more to make sure there are no allergies.

BEETS

Beets are a fantastic food choice for babies due to their rich nutritional profile. They are packed with essential vitamins and minerals, including folate, which supports healthy growth and development. The natural sweetness of beets makes them appealing to young palates, while their high fiber content aids in digestion. Additionally, beets contain antioxidants that can help protect your baby's cells and promote overall health. Incorporating beets into your baby’s diet is a delicious way to provide essential nutrients

IRON

Iron is an absolute superstar in your baby's diet, supporting their amazing growth and development It plays a vital role in creating red blood cells that carry oxygen all over their little bodies. Getting enough helps ward off anemia, which can lead to fatigue and delays in development. So, we are making sure to pack our food with iron rich foods- such as BEETS!

Beets are an exciting and nutritious option to include in your baby's diet for a boost of! Their natural sweetness and vibrant color are sure to delight your little one. We will be fully cooking and then pureeing these for easy digestion. As always, consult with your pediatrician before introducing new foods to ensure your baby gets the best nutrition possible. Iron is especially important during growth spurts, and infancy is a period of rapid growth. Because of these growth spurts, the body's demand for iron increases to produce more red blood cells and support developmental milestones. Sometimes it is necessary to give iron supplements to your infants. You will need to speak to your pediatrician for more information regarding your child's iron needs; however, using beets when making homemade baby food is an amazing way to boost the iron they are getting in their food

STRAWBERRIES

One of my girls first foods was strawberries, and what's not to love about these delicious little bites. The amazing thing about this fruit is its versatility. There are countless ways to use them, cakes, pies, fillings, toppings, sauces, garnishes, smoothies you name it. Adding strawberries to our homemade baby food adds that extra flavor that we want baby to love. After knowing my littles diet, these ingredients all worked well and the addition of the strawberries were what was needed to give this a delicious fruity flavor.

Strawberries add more than just flavor; there are many health benefits to adding them to our puree. Strawberries are high in antioxidants, and are a great source of Vitamin C, which is vital for a healthy immune system. They also contain fiber which is great for digestion, as well as their low calorie and sugar content. Even though these strawberries will be adding flavor and some sweetness. They are also a good source of folate (Vitamin B9), potassium, and manganese!

Sweet Potatoes

While adding sweet potatoes to our puree for added benefits, we want to be mindful of balance with flavors. In my recipe I add about two medium sweet potatoes, but one will work as well not to throw off any flavors. I have found if I add too much, my little one doesn't seem to enjoy it as much, but that also may be a preference thing. If your little loves sweet potatoes, you can play around with adding a little more.

Sweet potatoes are an amazing food to add since it's packed with essential vitamins and minerals.

  • Vitamin A (as Beta-Carotene): Orange-fleshed sweet potatoes are one of the best sources of beta-carotene, which your body converts to Vitamin A. This is crucial for healthy vision, immune function, and organ health.

  • Vitamin C: An antioxidant that supports the immune system and aids in collagen production for healthy skin and hair.

  • Potassium: Essential for heart health and helps to regulate blood pressure by balancing sodium levels. One large baked sweet potato can contain a significant portion of the daily recommended amount.

  • Manganese and Copper: These minerals support a healthy immune system, nerve function, and bone health.

  • B Vitamins: Such as Vitamin B6, which supports brain and nervous system health (Google. (2025, October 8)- Benefits of Sweet Potatoes)

Note: These ingredients can be altered to fit to taste. This is a base amount that work well for texture and flavor. Also, you can try adding cooked quick oats, or cooked rice and blend together to create a more filling meal. Keep in mind this may alter taste and texture. I try to keep it simple in order to achieve best results.
